Revival in cruise tourism

Next month's call of the Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), the Cunard and Seabourn Line's celebrated "City-at-Sea", heralds a revival in cruise tourism and underlines Cunard's commitment to Colombo, the line's agent Lewis Shipping (Private) Limited said.

A member of the Delmege Forsyth Group, which has represented the Cunard and Seabourn Line for several decades, Lewis Shipping is responsible for the handling of the ship on its call in Colombo. The QE2 due on March 18 will be the first of four calls by Cunard and Seabourn Line ships during the next 12 months, Lewis Shipping Director Captain L.N. Jayasooriya said. The 'Seabourn Spirit' one of the Line's "Yachts of Seabourn" group of cruise vessels is due in Colombo on April 4 and December 16, while the QE2 is expected to return to Colombo in March 2004 on her world cruise.

"The return of these luxury passenger ships to Colombo after a notable drop in calls last year reflects the confidence of the world's most famous shipping line in Colombo", he said. "As the long-standing handling agent for these prestigious luxury vessels, the Delmege Group is very pleased to be associated with this resurgence in tourism."

Accommodating 1,700 passengers representing the most affluent segment of leisure travellers, the QE2 has been adjudged best in her class for four successive years by the Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships, one of the industry's most authoritative publications.
