Mohan Ratnayake wins RCGC President's Cup Thirteen (13) Handicapper Mohan Ratnayake was in stunning form as he took the coveted RCGC President's Cup with scores of 73 and 64 to total 137 nett. Dr. C. Thurairaja the popular sports star of yesteryear presented Ratnayake with a glittering trophy much to the jubilation of the large gathering present at the awards ceremony. Coming in second place was the steady golfer Lalith Ramanayake whose score of 71 and 68 was not enough at the end. Also vying for second place was Iskander Sarudin who totalled 139 but lost on a count back to Ramanayake. Ratnayake's rounds of 73 on day one was steady but on day 2 showed class with an almost perfect round to score a nett 64 which was the best score of the day. It also won him the Lacoste Trophy winning by 43 points which was ahead of the rest on a very windy day at the Ridgeways. Kumar Mirchandani of the Hirdramani clan had an excellent round of 39 to second slot in the B division. The A division was won by RCGC Captain Lalith Ramanayake and the C Division by Nirmal Ranasinghe. Mohan Ratnayake won the overall title to take home the handsome Lacoste Trophy presented by Hundlani Director of Perfumery. Day one also saw many good scores from Julian Dias, Kumar Borelessa, Praveen Dias, Saman Premasiri and Ananda Jayasekera of racing fame who fell wayward on day two. The weekend was packed with golfers making merry with the very windy conditions and feeling the ponds and the outer of bounds regularly. |
