Donors briefed on humanitarian and rehabilitation needs

Head of the government delegation to the Sub-Committee on Immediate Humanitarian and Rehabilitation Needs of the North and East (SIHRN) Ambassador Bernard Goonetilleke and member of the LTTE delegation Dr. Jay Maheswaran met with Colombo based bilateral and multilateral donors yesterday morning.

The donor community was briefed on the scope and mandate of the Sub-Committee in addressing immediate humanitarian needs of the North and East. The role of the SIHRN Secretariat in Kilinochchi and modalities relating to donor funding options through the North-East Reconstruction Fund (NERF) were also discussed.

Over twenty diplomats and officials were present representing some of the key donors to Sri Lanka. The ensuing discussion with the representatives of the Sub-Committee provided donors with clarification on issues related to SIHRN activities.
