Temporary camps will be set up in the North to house internally displaced Muslims as a first step towards re-settling them in their original villages in the North. This follows a directive by Port Development, Shipping, Eastern Development and Muslim Religious Affairs Minister Rauff Hakeem to Jaffna GA C. Pathmanathan at a conference held at his Ministry on Monday. Minister Hakeem told the Jaffna GA that when re-settling displaced Muslims priority should be given towards providing places of worship for them to engage in their religious activities and schooling facilities for their children. A press release issued by the Ministry of Port Development and Shipping said that at this conference it was decided to set up several temporary residential camps, for accommodating displaced Muslims until their re-settlement in their villages and to undertake the rehabilitation of devastated Muslim schools in the North immediately. Minister Hakeem also said that aimed to visit the North shortly to inspect the present conditions of previous Muslim villages in the North and take necessary steps to restore them. |
