50 foreign delegates at IOSCO meeting

Fifty foreign delegates from Securities Exchange Commissions in Asia Pacific region are in Colombo attending the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Asia Pacific Regional Committee (APRC) and the Enforcement Directors' Meeting at the Taj Samudra Hotel Colombo today. The conference opened by Finance Minister K.N.Choksy last evening will discuss various matters pertaining to regional and global regulatory issues.


Industrial sector perturbed over LPG prices

The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries which represents the Industrial sector and being the 'Single Voice for Industry' is perturbed over the increase in the price of LP Gas and other essential consumer items. These increases are causing grave hardship to the poor consumer.

The Chamber reliably understands that after the festive season, which was celebrated by many after more than two decades of war were looking forward to a better deal in the New Year, but were sad that the New Year has brought more hardships to the people, with the price increases.

"We look up to the Government to bring some relief to the consumer, as these price increases will also reduce the income of the Government, as people will not be able to buy even their essential commodities," the CNCI said in a press release.


International Customs Day

The Sri Lanka Customs will today celebrate the International Customs Day which falls on January 26. Minister of Rural Economy and Deputy Minister of Finance, Bandula Gunewardena, Secretary to the Treasury, Charitha Ratwatte and Deputy Secretaries will be present.
