Kalutara's job centre a boon for youth, says Minister

by Kalutara group correspondent

Rekiya Piyasa (Job Centre) at Agalawatte is a boon for Kalutara's youth, said Employment and Labour Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe.

Speaking after opening the job centre the Minister said jobless youth in the district need not go after politicians and politicians need not issue letters to unemployed youth as the centre will enable youth to find jobs.

Officials attached to Rekiya Piyasa should not try to make an election centre of the place, but all who come here should be treated alike irrespective of politics, caste, creed or religion, Samarasinghe said.

He said under Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's concept, Rekiya Piyasa was set up and therefore it is the duty to follow the Premier's method and help the common people in the society.

Samarasinghe said before the end of May, the Ministry will open 17 similar centres in different places in the country.

"Thereafter jobless youth can register at the job centres according to their qualifications," the Minister said.

Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Employment Mahinda Gammanpila said 17 job centres will be opened in all districts in a short period.

Norwegian Ambassador in Sri Lanka John Westborg, Tilak de Zoysa, President of the Board of Commence and Secretary to the Board Renton de Alwis also spoke.
