Author visit from UK

Denis Bond is an actor and has worked in repertory theatre, in London's West End and on TV and radio. Denis has also written for radio, including radios 4's The Listening Corner. He gave up teaching when he was commissioned to write 26 episodes for a children's TV series. The series, Pipkins was a huge success and ran for five years. This was followed by three different, but equally successful series; Rainbow, The Munch Bunch and Let's Pretend. He has been in constant demand for book events of all kinds and is well-known for his action packed sessions in schools and libraries.

As a writer, Denis has almost 70 children's books to his name. His picture books are illustrated by Valeria Petrone and together they have a special gift for creating funny, lively stories. Denis's novels for older readers include several for the 'Point Romance' series and these are published under the name of Denis Colby. The TV and film rights for his first blockbuster for young adults, No. 1, have been sold and this promises to be a major hit. He has also published Avenue, which is an enormously successful title about soap operas. Denis now splits his time between acting, writing and author visits to schools.

Denis Bond has visited more than 500 schools in the UK. He has also conducted writers workshops as far afield as Australia, Hong Kong, Portugal, Germany and Czech Republic.

The British Council will sponsor Denis Bond's visit to Sri Lanka for a period of six days (January 20th to January 26th). He will conduct workshops for young learners in Colombo, Kandy, and Matara for members belonging to the age groups 5-7, 8-10, 11-12, and 13-15. He will also visit schools in Colombo, Kandy and Matara in order to conduct these workshops. The British Council will present its Young Learners Centre members the opportunity to join in these workshops in order to improve their reading/writing skills in English.
