Workshop on 'Cargo Claims' The Sri Lanka Freight Forwarders' Association conducted a workshop on "Cargo Claims" recently which was held in two batches at Hotel Trans Asia. The workshop was attended by 66 active participants of the association. The primary objective of the workshop was to provide a comprehensive knowledge on all aspects of cargo claims with practical examples to the members of the association. The workshop was conducted by Lewis. C. H. Leung who is a Cargo Training and Development Officer for Cathay Pacific Airways Limited. The main areas of interest which were covered in this program included: Introduction of Legal Instruments - the Warsaw Convention, the Hague Protocol, the Montreal Protocol, General Conditions of Carriage and Conditions of Contract, Documentation - supportive documents for claims, function of the airway bill, function of the house airway bill, Pre-caution - types of claims whose liability, how to protect one's client and the interest of the company, what is career's custody, the difference between career's liability and insurance, declared value for carriage and insurance, Handling procedures included, points to observe, what a proper claimed letter is, supporting documents in Pre-Claim and Form Claim and the team members of Cathay Pacific Cargo Claims and, Prevention and case studies. The workshop included several practical examples, which were shared by some participants from their day-to-day experience. All the participants were impressed with the knowledge and experience gained through the course. They were immensely benefited by the expertise of Leung and the support extended by Cathay Pacific Cargo, Colombo. |
