Govt on right path to fulfil people's aspirations - Minister Markar

The people elected the present government with three main-objectives - to restore peace in the country, which was essential to rebuild the social democracy in the country which had moved away from us and to re-establish the economy which was shattered, said Minister of Mass Communication, Imthiaz Bakeer Markar at the ceremonial inauguration of 'Dahampahanagama' Reawakened Village in Beruwela recently.

The Minister said although it is difficult to fulfil all these objectives within a short period of one year, the Government has accessed into a right path to achieve those objectives. However, this is a burdensome path.

Hence, we and the public will have to make sacrifices for a better tomorrow, not only today but also in the future. It is our responsibility to strengthen the Government led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who always makes efforts for the betterment of our country through such sacrifices.

'Dahampahangama' Reawakened Village was constructed by the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) with the financial assistance of Maharaja Technology Company (MTT). Seventy Six new housing units were built in this village and it is compiled with common amenities such as pre-school, roads, water supply and electricity.

After the opening ceremony, Minister Imthiaz Bakeer Markar said "We have commenced the second housing project of an integrated development program implemented in Beruwela area to give ownership of houses to the poorest of the poor in Beruwela. People had many expectations while electing the UNF into power.

Their main objectives were a job opportunity and a house to live. However, the existing economic hardships caused a drawback, and as public representatives we have a responsibility to fulfil the public requirements as far as possible. Therefore, we were able to find a private sector contribution for this housing project and it commenced in the Beruwela electorate.

He said, the private sector contribution of the telecommunications and electronic communication sectors were given to development activities of 17 housing projects in Beruwela electorate. They expend about Rs. 15 million for this purpose and today we opened the two new housing projects established with the assistance of Messrs MTT.
