LTTE reject abduction of missing soldier by Thakshila Jayasekera According to high ranking Army sources, there is no information whatsoever about the Army Intelligence Unit soldier who disappeared while out on duty in Batticaloa on January 3. The LTTE who are alleged to have abducted this soldier, reject the charge and state that this may be an act committed by a gang presently engaged in a conspiracy to spoil the name of their organisation and endeavouring to scuttle the developing peace process between the Government and the Tigers. Army officials remarked that the LTTE is silent on the question as to who could have committed the abduction. He said that the name of the missing soldier has now been registered in the list of disappeared personnel and added that they are trying their best to trace the missing soldier. The soldier, N. Pulendrarajah (42), attached to the Intelligence Unit of the Batticaloa Regiment No. 233 Headquarters left the camp on duty on January 3 but has not returned. There is evidence that an unidentified gang abducted him. |
