by Jaffna special correspondent "The Prime Minister and I are anxious that the facilities enjoyed by the people in the South should be accorded to the people in the North too. It is with this in view that a CWE retail shop 'Sathosa' has been opened in Jaffna. The consumer items produced in Jaffna should reach the people in the South and the Jaffna producers should get a fair price for their produce. The Sathosa in Jaffna will coordinate the marketing of chillies, onions, plantains and other agricultural produce cultivated in the North and at the same time facilitate the sales of consumer goods produced in the South said Ravi Karunanayake Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs after he opened a Sathosa shop at the former Windsor theatre building in Jaffna. The Minister was accompanied by his wife, the Commanders of Security Forces in Jaffna and V. Anandasangary MP and President TULF. The Minister said that the Sathosa shops have been opened in all the districts except Jaffna. With the opening of a Sathosa shop in Jaffna the people of Jaffna are given the benefit of purchasing their consumer goods at a very fair price and selling their produce at a competitive price. My Ministry is taking meticulous care in keeping in check the escalation of prices and the cost of living. We are doing this function to the satisfaction of all. He said that he did not want to visit Jaffna empty-handed. Therefore he has brought Sathosa to Jaffna, after a spell of three years to give relief to the consumers. After the opening the Minister and party visited the Jaffna Public Library and Nallur Kandasamy kovil. |
