by Kahawa special correspondent The agriculture, Irrigation, Fisheries and Livestock departments functioning under my purview, were brought under an integrated program funded by the Food Security Program of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in order to wipe out, poverty, malnutrition and unemployment among 137,000 families in the Hambantota district providing them with income-generating projects, SPC Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, Fisheries and Livestock Development Affairs M.K. Ranjith told the "Daily News" at his Galle Ministry office. He said, under the program, 1,523 tanks in the district will be developed, and in the first stage, the 'Tammennawa' tank development work is already under way. The Minister said, Provincial Chief Minister, H.G. Sirisena and Provincial Chief Secretary Albert Ratnayake have also contributed funds and machinery needed for the project. He said, I hope to upgrade a few more tanks in the district in the same way gradually. |
