by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi

The first discussion between the Cabinet Sub Committee appointed to look into the problems pertaining to professions in the health sector and its trade unions was held at the Ministry premises yesterday.

Chairman of the Cabinet Sub Committee Minister Karu Jayasuriya chaired the meeting which was attended by all the trade unions attached to the health sector.

The discussion focused on the general issues pertaining to the health sector, a Ministry spokesman told the Daily News yesterday.

Besides, each union had presented detailed and written views, comments and their demands to the Sub Committee, he added.

Spokesman said apart from this meeting, Health Minister P. Dayaratne is expected to meet each trade union representative separately for further discussions in due course.

The Government appointed this five member Cabinet Sub Committee last month to make necessary recommendations to resolve the problems in the health sector.

This Committee headed by Minster Karu Jayasuriya comprises P. Dayaratne, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Vajira Abeywardena and Alick Aluvihare.

The Ministry has already appointed an Additional Secretary of the Ministry to coordinate the activities of this committee.
