by A.M. Razik in Kandy Three young men who were remanded earlier for allegedly operating a 'mini Kachcheri' in a shop at De Soysa Lane, Kandy were further remanded by the Kandy Magistrate D.L.M. Seniviratne on Wednesday. When the case was called SI A.B. Weerasinghe, OIC of the Counter Subversive Unit of Kandy police submitted a further report and said that the police had taken a large number of forged and unused government documents, several forged rubberstamps of top government officials and several passports into custody. Attorneys-at-law Upali Bogahapitiya and Aftab Jameel informed court that one of the suspects has a licence to operate a foreign job agency and moved that suspects be released on bail. They also told court that police had taken a passport with valid visa to leave the Island on January 27 and moved that police be directed to release the passport to its holder who is present in court. The magistrate ordered police to release the particular passport to its holder and re-remanded the suspects till January 16. |
