Fourteen (Under 17) outstanding players selected

Fourteen outstanding players (under 17) were selected from a number of 45 gathered in Colombo from various districts to participate in the 'Talent Search' residential coaching camp which was successfully held for 4 days, from 27th to 30th December 2002 at the Kettarama Stadium.

The entire residential 4 day coaching camp was fully sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka Ltd.

The entire Talent Search programme for under 15 and 17 age groups, sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka Ltd, at a cost of Rs. 1.5 million was launched at Dambulla in September 2002. Twenty of the best from 65 players were selected from the Dambulla programme. The December programme held at the R. Premadasa Stadium at which the 45 players and a further 20 additional players from districts chosen by the respective District Coaches participated. From this lot 45 attended the Colombo coaching camp and 14 outstanding players were chosen in the categories of Fast bowlers, Batsmen and Spin bowlers.

List of the outstanding players selected are as follows:

Fast Bowlers Shehan Bowela - Dharmapala Pannipitiya, Dilan Fernando - Joseph Vass Batsmen N. Naula - Kalutara Vidyalaya, C.Kapugedera - Dharmaraja Kandy, Malinda Siriwardane - Kalutara MMV, Udesh Perers - St. Annes Kurunegala.

Spin Bowlers Sanjaya Chaturanga - Matara-Rahula (LLS), Ramitha Perera - Ananda College (RO), Isuru Vindana - Isipathana (RO), Amal Ekanayake - Dharmaraja Kandy (LLS), Saman Nishantha - Isipathana (RO), Dinul Abeydeera - St. Sebastian's (LLS), D.S. Medawatte - St. Thomas - Matale (LLS), A. Ranasinghe - Ananda (LLS)

The above players were selected by the following coaches, Champaka Ramanayake, Ruwan Kalpage, Hemantha Devapriya, Oshadee Weerasinghe, Lalith Kaluperuma

The Cricket Operations department is currently organizing a separate coaching camp for the 26 boys from district level list who were unable to attend the Colombo 'Talent Search' coaching programme held in December 2002.

Accommodation for the outstation cricketers was provided at the newly refurbished dormitory of the R. Premadasa Stadium.
