by Manjula Fernando The Examinations Department investigating officers who left for Kalmunai to inquire into the complaint of a GCE Ordinary Level mathematics paper leak had apprehended three more imposters who had taken the place of three other candidates at the exam. The investigating officers, two Additional Examinations Commissioners and a Deputy Commissioner had apprehended the imposters after detecting discrepancies in their forged IDs. A senior official at the Examinations Department told the Daily News yesterday that Kalmunai was famous for examination frauds and they received a lot of complaints following each examination. "The Department is having a headache with certain corrupt educational officers there," he said. "We are going to initiate an inquiry into the complaints when the examination is over. Until we receive the answer scripts of the candidates alleged to have been involved in the fraud, we cannot say anything," Exams Commissioner Mahinda Wijesiri said. He said there will not be a fresh paper for mathematics. Instead the results of the offenders will be cancelled and their candidature will be suspended for several years (between 2-3 years). The three imposters will also face suspension of their candidature after a formal inquiry. The Educational officers involved will face disciplinary action by the Department if proven guilty, he said. Four Advanced Level students were caught impersonating at a Kandy examinations centre last week. |
