Anuruddha, Mahen apologise to Sunil

by Sarath Malalasekera and Jayantha Sri Nissanka

Former Deputy Defence Minister Anuruddha Ratwatte and son Mahen jointly apologised to Gypsies leader Sunil Perera at the latter's Ratmalana residence yesterday afternoon but Perera has insisted on a court settlement.

This is a sequel to Mahen Ratwatte assaulting the singer at the Colombo Hilton over a song that Ratwatte took offence at, which allegedly referred to the former Deputy Defence Minister by innuendo.

Meanwhile, Mahen Ratwatte had contacted Fort Police OIC Jayantha Seneviratne and had told him that he will surrender to Police.

However, Mahen had not surrendered till 10 pm yesterday. OIC Seneviratne said two Police teams had been assigned to arrest Mahen. They had visited Nuwara Eliya and many other places where Mahen is supposed to be hiding.

The special police team investigating the alleged attack on Sunil Perera yesterday recorded a statement from Mahen Ratwatte's wife. He is wanted in connection with the attack on Perera at a five star hotel early Saturday.

Colombo Central Senior SP Lucky Dissanayake said according to Mrs. Mahen Ratwatte her husband had left Colombo and agreed to produce him before police once he returns.

Perera in his complaint stated that Ratwatte had assaulted him inside a rest room at the Colombo Hilton.
