EWIS awarded tender to supply 2,000 computers to schools

Under the guidance of Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku, Minister of Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs 116 schools would be the beneficiaries of a project for the installation of 2,000 computers in schools island-wide. This is the biggest ever project undertaken up to date by the Ministry of Education for the advancement of IT knowledge among schoolchildren.

Under this project it is envisaged that the students would be exposed to training not only in IT but also for computer aided training in all other subjects as well.

The Asian Development Bank in funding this project has taken into consideration the importance of investing in the next generation and has laid very stringent conditions to enable the students to have the best possible equipment available at their disposal.

E-W Information Systems as the Principal Business Partner of IBM was selected with International Competitive Bidding by experts in the field of IT in Sri Lanka.

The islandwide branch network of EWIS was a major factor taken into consideration in awarding this tender to them, which would enable the schools to have access to high quality engineers anywhere in the island.

EWIS has a branch network of nine branches and two affiliated offices spread throughout the country including Jaffna.

EWIS in its 16-year existence has secured many contracts from the Ministry of Education including the Computerisation of the Examinations Department which enables them to release their results within 1 1/2 months of the completion of the GCE A/L Examination and the GCE O/L Examination.

This project is supervised by a group of highly skilled and experienced officers of the Ministry of Education headed by V.K. Nanayakkara, Secretary to the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs.
