LTTE has made solemn pledge to give up violence - Balasingham The LTTE's Chief negotiator Anton Balasingham yesterday denied reports that he had dismissed the United States call to renounce violence and pointed out that by signing the ceasefire agreement with the government his organisation showed it had given up violence. "We don't see the need to make a statement when we have made a solemn pledge in writing," he told reporters in Oslo. He said he however rejects the US's categorisation that the LTTE was involved in terrorism. "This was a conflict between two parties so both were responsible for violence," he said. Balasingham however rejected claims by the People's Alliance that the LTTE was readying for a Balkanisation of Sri Lanka. "We are working out a solution to the problem within a united Sri Lanka which will give some sort of regional autonomy to the Tamil people. That has been clearly and categorically stated by our leader Velupillai Prabhakaran," he added. |
