Buoyant Windies arrive in Bangladesh

DHAKA, Tuesday (AFP) - West Indies cricket coach Roger Harper said Tuesday his team will use the tour of Bangladesh to build on the impressive one-day win over India ahead of the World Cup.

"We are confident of maintaining our good performance," Harper said after his side arrived here to play three one-day internationals and two Tests against the hosts.

The West Indies on Sunday clinched a seven-match series 4-3 in India with a 135-run victory in the last one-dayer at Vijayawada.

"We'll try to perform as we did in India, but we'll also be cautious about some of the hardworking Bangladeshi players," said Harper.

The tourists left for the south-eastern port city of Chittagong where the first one-dayer will be played on Friday.

The West Indies are led by wicket-keeper Ridley Jacobs in the absence of Carl Hooper, who is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on his right knee in Australia this month.

The tourists will also be without striker bowler Mervyn Dillon, who sustained an injury on the Indian tour. He was replaced by Cameron Cuffy.

Bangladesh have lost 14 of their 15 Tests since making their debut in 2000 against India, including 10 by an innings.

The lone draw came in a rain-ruined home Test against Zimbabwe last year.

The Bangladesh tour will be the last outing for the West Indians before the World Cup to be played in southern Africa in February-March.

West Indies: Ridley Jacobs (capt), Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Pedro Collins, Corey Collymore, Vasbert Drakes, Daren Ganga, Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds, Jermaine Lawson, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Daren Powell, Ricardo Powell, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Cameron Cuffy.
