"The JVP is now saying that the LTTE had made series of protest campaigns in the past opposite several International monetary agencies such as the World Bank and also the United Nations asking not to grant financial aids to Sri Lanka", he said. The Minister made these observations at a ceremony held at Ihalakanda, Agalawattta to coincide with the opening of a new water scheme. Dr. Senaratna further said that the Oslo aid group meeting could be the only international aid group meeting where Sri Lanka is expected to receive substantial aids for the first time. "But the JVP is still showing their anger over the LTTE's Theoretician Anton Balasingham's participation in this conference on the grounds that the LTTE has not yet handed over their weapons to the Government security forces. As is evident the JVP has not yet stopped its violent activities. They are involved in several killings such as the killing of the University student Samantha and the Chairman of the Walallawita Pradeshiya Saba. "People have never forgotten the unlawful acts committed by the JVP in the past such as the bomb attack on Parliament and also the killings of 64 candidates who contested the 1988 Provincial Council Elections. "Isn't it ironic that the JVP is now boasting that it has the remote control of the Provincial Councils", he said. The Minister declared that if the LTTE's participation in the Oslo meeting along with the Lankan government officials is wrong then the JVP who were also involved in a series of murderous acts has no authority to sit in Parliament which is the supreme body in our country. |
