News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | JVP will go forward with masses' blessings - Tylvin By Gamini Bandaranayaka The United National Party and its allies supported by their media mafia are holding the JVP responsible for the recent killing of a student of the Sri Jayawardhanapura University and are using this issue to suppress the JVP, General Secretary Tylvin Silva said at the party's fourth National Convention at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium yesterday. "It is a childish attempt. We are not prepared for gutter politics with UNP thugs. Some attacks on the JVP have taken place. The JVP Maharagama office has been set on fire. Parts of the pandal constructed for this meeting were burnt. If the UNP thinks it can provoke us by such attacks they are mistaken," Silva said. He stated that the JVP is different from what it was. The JVP has MPs in Parliament. It is represented in Provincial Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas. The UNP cannot suppress us, he said. He said the JVP was commemorating Party Leader Rohana Wijeweera and thousands of comrades including Upatissa Gamanayake who were massacred 13 years ago. Braving criticism, conspiracies, false allegations and attacks we shall march forward from strength to strength with the blessings of progressive masses, concluded Silva. JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa stated that the JVP is going forward cautiously as the government is intentionally confusing the administrative machinery to bring it to a halt. This will pave the way for Tamil Eelam. "Sri Lanka is losing its sovereignty as security forces are being withdrawn from the North-East. The UNP Government shares decision making on National Security with terrorist organisations," Weerawansa said. He said the Government is gambling with the leader of a terrorist organisation who has been sentenced to 200 years in jail. |
