WCIC lauds Budget The Women's Chamber of Industry and Commerce (WCIC) commenting on the 2003 budget proposals presented on November 7 lauded the initiative taken by the Government to provide a separate window for women, to access funds in consultation with the Ministry of Women's Affairs and other civil organisations. In an era when empowerment of women to make them partners in growth and development of nations is being globally discussed and accepted, the initiative taken by the government through this budget is highly commendable and forward looking, said the Chairperson Indira Senanayake Kulatilake. Women in Sri Lanka are making a significant contribution to the economic and social development of our country and given the impetus as envisaged in the budget proposals, the WCIC consisting of Business and professional women in their strategic plan for years 2003 to 2005 will conduct programs for Women Entrepreneurship Development and provide such women with a credit initiative to assist them in starting their enterprises. The Government through the Ministry of Women's Affairs, should pave the way and provide a safe and conducive environment for women to come forward and play an active role in the social uplift and sustainable development activities in the country, Kulatilake said. |
