Top Japanese business delegation due here on Nov. 24

A high powered business delegation of over 30 delegates from Japan led by Minoru Murofushi, Chairman, Itochu Corporation is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka from November 24 to 27 to participate in the 13th joint meeting of the Sri Lanka Japan and Japan Sri Lanka Business Co-operation Committees (SLJBCC).

Murofushi is the Chairman of the Japan Sri Lanka Business Co-operation Committee. The President of the Japan Sri Lanka Business Co-operation Committee is Das H.T. Wijeratne.

The main objective of the joint meeting is to promote trade, investment and services including tourism between the two countries. The Japanese delegation consists of representatives from the Cox & Kings (Japan) Ltd, Itochu Management Consultants Co. Ltd., Japan Asia Investment Co. Ltd, JBIC, Jupiter Corporation, Kajima Corporation, Lovells, Marubeni Corp. Mitsubishi Corp. Mitsui Co. Ltd, Nippon Koei Co Ltd. Noritake Co. Ltd., Sumitomo Corp. Tomen Corp. Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry of Japan and JETRO. Some Japanese Companies resident in Sri Lanka will also participate in the joint meeting.

Part of the Joint Meeting will be devoted to one to one business meetings between Japanese and Sri Lanka businessmen. The business interests of the Japanese companies cover general trading, travel agencies, electronic materials, components, optical devices and batteries, venture capital, international finance co-operation and overseas economic co-operation, construction, law and social economic infrastructure development and eramics.

In addition to the joint meeting, as part of the celebrations of 50 years of diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and Japan, the SLJBCC with the assistance of its counterpart in Japan will organise a "Japan-Sri Lanka 21st Century Symposium". A symposium on Japan-Sri Lanka relations will also be held. The focus will be on business and cultural relationships and to promote of mutual understanding about the global strategy in the 21st Century.

Activities of the SLJBCC in Sri Lanka are co-ordinated by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce whilst the activities of the Japan-Sri Lanka Business Co-operation Committee in Japan are co-ordinated by the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Tokyo, Japan. The two Committees were set up in 1979.
