Czech airlines launches inaugural flight The national carrier Czech Republic, Czech Airlines launched their inaugural flight to Colombo last Tuesday. Vice President of the airline Vaclav Karl said that this is the first European airline to operate flights to Sri Lanka after the peace process began. "We are targeting the labour traffic from Sri Lanka to Dubai as well as other travellers to European destinations." He said that the airline together with their Sri Lanka agents Jetwing Group marketed Sri Lanka in the Czech Republic and was very happy with the response from the inaugural flight. "This flight was full and it has already justified our decision to fly to Sri Lanka." He said that the airline would operate two flights a week with a one- hour stop over in Dubai. "We have 144 daily flights to 44 destinations in 39 countries and Prague would also be an ideal destination to transit before flying to European destinations." Chairman Tourist Board Paddy Withana said that the Board too has lined up a series of promotions including a Travel exhibition to promote Sri Lanka in the Czech Republic. "We are also exploring the possibility of removing some of the red tape with regard to visas for Sri Lanka." |
