The SLFP has nominated President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga as the President of the Trade Union. MPs Maitripala Sirisena, John Seneviratne, Chamal Rajapakse, Susil Premajayantha, V. Puthrasigamanee, Mahipala Herath and Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra were appointed as Vice Presidents in charge of various sectors of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya. The membership questioned as to how the name of Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse was not included in the list. They proposed that the Opposition Leader should be included in the trade union even by creating a new post. They pointed out that if President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga held the portfolio of Deputy Chairperson when the late Sirimavo Bandaranaike held the Chairpersonship, Mahinda Rajapakse can also be given a chance. General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya Lesley Devendra said he cannot take decision in this regard as the names had been sent to him by the party. However, he agreed to put the proposal to the Executive Committee and to the party leadership. The members urged that their request should go to the party as a unanimous decision at the 5th delegates conference of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya. |
