Quadruplets father laments'upkeep becomes difficult'

from W. M. U. Wanasinghe, Passara group correspondent

The quadruplets born to Mrs. K. A. Senali Silva of Pattiyegedara, in Hali-Ela, who are due to celebrate their third birth -day on Monday October 14 are reported to be progressing well health wise. However, their father W. A. Leelasena, a bulldozer driver, lamented that their upkeep had become difficult for his family without outside help.

The two girls named Lahinee Humara and Lihini Boodara and the two boys Lakindu Mahela and Lasindu Wasura drew wide public sympathy and interest when they were born. At that time many institutions and individual donors rushed in promising all assistance to ensure the children future welfare.

Leelasena said except for the firms continuing to provide milk food and toiletries and the Lions Club which is building a new house for his family at Attampitiya, other donors who promised assistance have now backtracked and he found it difficult to bring up the four children with a frugal family budget. Travelling too had become a problem as the four children had to be taken to hospital for regular medical review.

A three wheeler taxi for instance would be a boon for the family as it would serve the dual purpose of providing easy transport for the children and a self-employment avenue for him to enhance family income.
