by Ananda Kannangara Marriages can be a success if both who are to be married are in similar social status and are in equally matched employment categories, Prof. J. B. Dissanayake said. "When a medical doctor who is always busy with patients, gets married to a partner in a different profession, social and family problems arise and will later affect marriage life too," he said. Speaking at a ceremony at the J. R. Jayewardene Cultural Centre, Colombo on Tuesday to coincide with the launching of Sarthaka Vivahayata Maga (The way to a successful marriage) written by Prematilaka Mapitigama, Prof. Dissanayake said it is rare in society where the husband and wife have 100 per cent similar concepts, attitudes and qualities. "If both have similar qualities, they will be able to lead happy married lives", he said. "Some people in our society are under a wrong impression that liquor plays a vital role in a married life.. "According to my view, liquor will be a problem for a happy life. I have also noticed that some marriages are successful because the husband and wife take liquor," Prof. Dissanayake said. He also said the Sinhala word Kasadaya was added to our language from the word Kasados used by Portuguese. Minister W. J. M. Lokubandara responding to certain remarks by Prof. Dissanayake said marriages between two in different jobs can be successful if both have a high degree of mutual trust and understanding. Quoting Betram Russel the Minister said if both agree, they can decide on their marriage leaving other obstacles aside. Lokubandara also thanked Mapitigama for releasing the book written on a rare subject. He said this book will be useful to people planning to get married. |
