By Somadasa Wijeratna Prasanna Withanage's Purasanda Kaluwara (Death on a Full Moon Day), a haunting tale of a father's undying love for his son presumed killed in action, won the award for the Best Film at the 27th Sarasaviya Film Festival awards presentation at the BMICH, Colombo, yesterday. Joe Abeywickrema picked up the Best Actor's award for his lead role in Purasanda Kaluwara while Sangeetha Weeraratne was adjudged the best actress for her performance in Aswesuma (Compensation). Weeraratne also won the Most Popular Actress Award. Ranjan Ramanayake won the Most Popular Actor Award. Producer Soma Edirisinghe received an award for the highest grossing film of 2001 "Rosa Wasanthe", in which Ranjan starred with Kanchana Mendis and Nisansala Jayatunga, both of whom won merit awards. Vincent Vass received the Lifetime Achievement Ranathisara Award. ANCL Chairman Nalin Ladduwahetty presented the Ranapala Bodinagoda Memorial Award for Excellence in Cinematic Literature to Benedict Dodampegama. |
