Eighty hurt as Bangladesh train jumps tracks DHAKA, Oct 10 (Reuters) - At least 80 people were injured, several seriously, when a Bangladesh passenger train jumped the tracks near the capital Dhaka on Thursday, police said. Nine of 12 coaches of the Jamuna Express derailed in the morning rush-hour accident between Dhaka and Jamalpur, 200 km (125 miles) north of the capital. "We have no report of any deaths yet from the accident," one police officer said by telephone. "The injured have been rushed to hospitals where 20 are in critical condition." At least 500 people were on the train at the time, he said. "The cause of the accident is being investigated," railway spokesman Mustafa-e Jamil told Reuters. A rail official said earlier an "unspecified number of people" had been killed or seriously injured in the crash. |
