SSC-NCC share J.R. Jayewardene Trophy

The J.R. Jayewardene Trophy played between SSC and NCC was held on Sunday October 6th at the SSC. This was a much awaited cricket match between Sri Lanka's two premier clubs, which got off to great start with Caltex Lubricants Lanka extending a sponsorship for the event in addition to the companies sponsorship with the SSC 1st XI Cricket Team.

NCC captained by Ruwan Kalpage batted first and was all out for a score of 271 in 48 overs. While SSC captained by Thilan Samaraweera was 83 for 3 wickets in 14 overs while play was interrupted due to rain. However, as play could not resume the J.R. Jayewardene Trophy was jointly awarded to the two captains Ruwan and Thilan who received it from the chief guest Mr. Hemaka Amarasuriya.

The best batsman award was given to Pradeep Hewage of NCC who scored a brilliant 76 while Avishka Gunawardane scored 31, the highest for SSC. Best bowler was Dhammika Kariyawasam for a magnificent 4 for 44 and best fielder award was given to Rally Tissera also of NCC.
