The three month-long Pin Fernando Trophy 2002 will come to a head today at the RCGC when a relative newcomer takes on a seasoned master for the coveted trophy. Ranil Pathirana with a handicap of 12 will tee-off against twice winner of this annual competition Sarath Wickremaratne with a handicap of 7.

Over 125 golfers were in the fray when the qualifying round was worked off in July and these two have made it to the finals of the knockout section as the rest fell by the way side.

The tournament eventually sees only the most dedicated golfers making it through to get their name on the board as the amateur golfers have to eke out a living in other fields.
