CID quiz CEB employees on blackout

by Sarath Malalasekera

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing Tuesday's power blackout in certain parts of the country had questioned six employees of the CEB including three senior officers.

The CID also recorded statements of several employees of the Kolonnawa CEB section to ascertain whether the black out was caused by a sabotage or accidentally.

Earlier Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe ordered CID Director Senior SP Lionel Gunatilleke to launch a full scale inquiry into the power failure.

The DIG CID deployed a special team headed by an ASP to investigate whether any political organisation had a hand in this incident. Matara, Galle, Hambantota, Ratnapura, Nuwara-Eliya, Badulla and several areas in Colombo South were plunged into darkness with some areas affected for several hours.
