Three B'deshis to he hanged DHAKA, Tuesday (AFP) A Bangladeshi court sentenced three men to the gallows for the death of a 10-year-old schoolgirl they had tried to abduct and assault, state television said. Prosecutors said the three men, all 19 or 20, had regularly teased Sadia Sultana Trisha as she walked to school and back in Gaibandha, some 192 kilometers (119 miles) north of the capital Dhaka. On July 17, the trio, led by Mehdi Hasan Modern, tried to abduct and assault Sadia, who jumped into a pond to save herself but drowned, prosecutors said. The case sparked outrage in Bangladesh, with the local media demanding quick punishment for the culprits under tough laws on violence against children and women. |
