Indian naval planes collide mid-air, 15 dead NEW DELHI, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Two Indian naval transport planes practising for an air show collided in mid-air on Tuesday over the western state of Goa, killing 15 people, officials said. Twelve of the dead were aboard the Russian-made Ilyushin 38s which carried six people each, Rajesh Singh, media adviser to Goa's chief minister told Reuters by telephone from Vasco City, 30 km (19 miles) from the state capital Panjim. Three others died when one of planes crashed into a bungalow under construction in Vasco City. "Fifteen people, most of them labourers on the site, were injured," Singh said. The other plane crashed into open land in Dabolim in the south of the state where Goa's main airport is located, Singh said. The mid-morning crash occurred as the planes practised for the squadron's silver jubilee celebrations, an air force spokesman said. |
