UC requests Railways to instal rail gates

A motion was unanimously adopted by the members of the Urban Council Beruwala requesting the Department of Railways to instal rail gates at unprotected level crossings between Beruwala and Kalutara. Speaking on the motion M.M.M. Irzan (Independent) said that eightpersons died at unprotected level crossings in Beruwala electorate.

Therefore, the Urban Council of Beruwala requests the General Manager of Railways to instal rail gates at unprotected level crossings.

D. Wimalasiri Silva (UNP) the Vice Chairman presided over the meeting held at the auditorium.

Wimalasiri Silva (UNP) Vice-Chairman said, the Minister of Mass Communication has allocated million of rupees to clean "Berawa Ela" on a complaint from people that the 'Ela' should be kept clean as it has become an ideal ground for breeding of mosquitoes.

"The present government is rendering a service not only for the people of the North and East but also to the people of the South", he said.He said that already the Department of Railways has taken steps to instal some signals at unprotected level crossings to avoid accidents.
