UC plea for upgrading of Glencairn hospital

by Maskeliya group correspondent

It was unanimously resolved to request the Minister of Health, to upgrade the Glencairn Government Hospital, at Dickoya to the status of a Base Hospital at the monthly meeting of the Hatton - Dickoya Urban Council held at its Auditorium, Hatton on September 26 under M.A.S. Aboosally, Chairman.

S. Logeswaran, member of CWC/UNP proposed the resolution and it was unanimously passed by the House.

The Glencairn Hospital was built at Glencairn during the time of the Colonial rulers. It has been serving a vast area from Hatton to Norwood, covering Dickoya, Puliyawatte, and estates in and around those places. Members Anthony E. Payee, Harrison Silva, K. Hettiarachchi, Kesawamoorthy, and Ramalingam stated about the poor road conditions of Sri Manikkapillayar Kovil, Hatton and requested the council to attend to it soon. The Chairman M.A.S. Aboosally, said all shortcomings and requirements of members will be looked into.

When there was cross talk between the Chairman and member Karunasinghe Hettiarachchi on submission of government circulars and other Council's letters, Hettiarachchi pointed out that we have come to the Council, representing the masses who voted and elected us. Therefore, their problems must be looked into and solutions found.

Rotating government Circulars and letters regarding recruiting employees and clerical staff will not help the voters. Therefore, let us all work together to solve the needs and problems of the people concerned.

Anthony E. Payee, member said if the Road Roller belonging to the Council was repaired, it can be put in use for road levelling by the council.
