Training program on apparel products

The Textile Training and Services Centre (TT & SC) and Clothing Industry Training Institute (CITI), two organisations functioning under the Ministry of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion and Minister of Tertiary Education and Training will conduct a regional training program titled "Quality Improvement of Apparel Products" for Senior level managers in the Garment Industry from October 7 to November 1. This is the Third Country program to be conducted by the two institutes under this program.

This program is sponsored by the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) under the Third Country Training Program (TCTP) of the Government of Japan.

The chief guest will be Prof. G.L. Peiris, Minister of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy, Investment promotion and Constitutional Affairs. Seiichiro Otsuka the Ambassador for Japan and Kabir Hashim, Minister of Tertiary Education and Training will be the guests of honour.

In the inaugural program there were 17 participants and in the second program there were 16 participants, of which 10 positions are offered to foreign participants.

The aim of this program is to impart the knowledge on Quality management systems to the participants who will be able to eventually act as a catalyst to improve the quality and productivity in their respective organisations.

The training program will cover lectures on Emerging Trends in Apparel Industry, Modern Manufacturing Systems, Productivity Concepts, Advance Development in Clothing Materials, Product Development Procedures and Environmental Issues which will be important topics to meet the challenges in the International Environment. In addition Study Torus, Cultural Visits have also been included in this program.

Fifteen participants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Vietnam and Sri Lanka will participate in this year's program.

The two institutes with the assistance of JICA, will conduct similar programs for two more years on topics which will be useful to meet the challenges of advancing technologies and environmental changes in the global textile and apparel sector.
