Four negotiating sessions from Sept 16-18 in Thailand

The Norwegian Government yesterday officially announced that the first round of direct talks between the government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) will be held at the Sattahip Naval Base in Chonburi Province, Thailand from September 16-18.

This is the first of many expected rounds of talks.

The opening ceremony will be held at 10.30 a.m on September 16 at the Ambassador City Jomtien Hotel near the Naval Base. The first round of the peace talks will begin in the afternoon and continue through September 18 morning.

The first negotiating session will be held from 3.00 to 6.00 p.m. on September 16, the second session from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. on September 17 and the third from 2.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. on the same day. The fourth session will take place from 9. a.m. to 12 p.m. on September 18.

The negotiations will be closed to the media. A news conference will be held at the conclusion of first round of talks, at 2 p.m. on 18 September at the Ambassador City Jomtien Hotel. The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok will issue a news release agreed by the Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE following the first round.
