Plans are afoot to develop Kegalle General Hospital as an upto date General Hospital between Colombo and Kandy.

Modern equipment that a General Hospital should be in possession of will be made available in this hospital. New extensions to the existing buildings will be constructed to house the various sections of the hospital, for a number of new wards, and for the holding of clinics.

Arrangements will be made for the opening of medical clinics in the field of Neurology, Cancer, Dermatology, Dental and ENT Clinics, with specialist medical attention.

This was disclosed to the "Daily News" by Wayamba Development Minister Jayatilake Podinilame. The Minister said, that a "People's organisation of Japan" has expressed its willingness to attend to all shortcomings of the Kegalle General Hospital and that the respective organisation will spend over 300 million rupees for the development of this hospital and to fortify it with modern equipment in medical technology.

Maternity and gynaecology and paediatrics units, too, will be established providing all facilities, and the principal aim is to provide all required buildings and medical equipment, said Minister Podinilame, MP Kegalle district.
