Maximum security for Clifford Cup final By our Kandy Sports Correspondent One hundred and seventy five policemen and twenty military policemen will be posted for duty inside the grounds at the Caltex Clifford Cup rugby finals between Kandy Sports Club and the Army which will be played at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium on Friday (September 6). This was disclosed by the President of the Central Province Rugby Football Union Maurice Perera at a press briefing held at Maurice Travels in Kandy on Tuesday. Maurice Perera said that the policemen will be from the Police Divisions of Kandy and Katugastota and the security arrangements will be handled by SSP Kandy Asoka Ratnaweera with the assistance of ASP Sarath Wickremasinghe and HQI Kandy Chief Inspector Edmund Mahendra. The Military Police will be provided by Major Hapuarachchi of the Army Command at Pallekelle. There will be a riot squad and dogs from police kennels who will have a close tab on spectators invading the field during play which will not be permitted. The match arrangements is handled by Maurice Perera (Chairman), Iswan Omar (Secretary), Leslie de Zoysa (Treasurer) with the assistance of M. Jainudeen and Mana from the SLRFU. Maurice Perera said that no liquor will be permitted inside the grounds and if a detection is made, the liquor will be confiscated and the errant spectator evicted from the grounds. Neither will be the drunken spectators tolerated and they will be sent out of the grounds. Trouble creators will be firmly dealt with by the police. |
