Thousands of devotees yesterday took part in the annual festival of the Nallur Sri Skandaswamy Kovil, Jaffna. The procession commenced at 7 am and paraded the city before it returned to the Kovil at 9 am. Progress towards peace satisfactory - PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday expressed confidence that it would not be necessary to re-impose the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam as progress towards peace was satisfactory at present.

CID to quiz former PM, eight others

The Criminal Investigation Department probing the alleged massive fraud at the Sri Lanka Rubber Manufacturing and Export Corporation will question former Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake and eight Secretaries of the Plantation Industries Ministry within the next few days.

De-ban will not impinge on civil and criminal laws - Prof. Peiris

The de-proscription of the LTTE was just a symbolic move to further facilitate peace talks. It is not irrevocable and the ban can be reimposed at any time under the Prevention of Terrorism Act , Cabinet spokesman Prof.G.L.Peiris told the weekly Cabinet press briefing yesterday.
