by Sa'adi Thawfeeq

Sri Lanka play West Indies at the NCC grounds on Sunday in the first of a series of practice matches arranged for the participating countries ahead of the ICC Champions trophy cricket tournament. The West Indies match will be the Sri Lanka's only practice game before the tournament kicks off on September 12. Sri Lanka commence the tournament when they take on Pakistan in a night game at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

West Indies are the first country due to arrive for the 18-day mega event which also features the 10 Test playing countries along with two associate member nations. They are expected to arrive on Saturday. Other countries are due to follow in the subsequent days.

With the SSC and R. Premadasa Stadium hosting the 15 tournament matches, the NCC and Police Park, Bambalapitiya have been reserved for the practice games.

The NCC will host five matches and Police Park two. West Indies, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands are the only countries who will have the advantage of playing two practice matches.
