The local government election will be held in 54 out of 71 local bodies in Northern and Eastern provinces on September 25 this year, the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils announced. The election was scheduled to be held in March 25 was postponed due to the difficulties that arose in holding the election in uncleared areas.

In eight out of 71 local bodies the election was held on March 25. Three were elected uncontested and in six local authorities nomination were not forwarded, a spokesperson for the Ministry said.
