Labookellie tea factory awarded 9001:2001 certification Labookellie Estate Tea Factory in the Ramboda sub-district of the Nuwara Eliya region, belonging to Agalawatte Plantations Limited, and managed by Mackwoods Plantations (Private) Limited was recently awarded the latest quality management system certification ISO 9001-2000 from Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) Switzerland. Labookellie is the first tea factory to be accredited with the internationally recognised standard for the manufacture of black teas. The certificate was presented to the Chairperson of the Mackwoods Group, Mrs. N.S.O. Nonis by Mrs. Jeanne Ochanto, General Manager, SGS Lanka Limited, a member of SGS, Switzerland, at a function held at the Mackwoods Board room. Mrs. Nonis in accepting the award said, "receiving this extremely prestigious award is a very significant achievement for the company. We are the first black tea manufacturer to obtain the latest version of the ISO standard. We will continue to strive for further excellence and work towards obtaining the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification which will give Labookellie further advantage in marketing its Tea. She commended Lal Perera, the Labookellie Estate Manager and the entire Factory and Head Office team for their commitment and dedication in achieving this award. |
