Pakistan demand drives Kenya tea prices higher (Reuters) - Kenya tea prices were generally higher at Monday's tea auction as strong demand from Pakistan again lifted the market, dealers said. "Most of the descriptions on offer have all appreciated," said an official at Africa Tea Brokers (ATB). "Pakistan is the strongest buyer, so is Sudan," he said. Demand for plainer Pekoes Dusts and Dust 1s was irregular due to a lack of interest from Egypt, which has strong stocks of the grades, the ATB official said. Prices of Brighter PDusts advanced by five cents to 26 U.S. cents. The poorest PDusts lost up to 10 U.S. cents, with betters sorts appreciating by up to eight U.S. cents. British blenders were active but selective, while Russia, Eastern Europe, Yemen and other Middle Eastern countries were more active, ATB said. Somalia and Ethiopia were strong on traditional fibrous Fannings types. |
