Aravinda and Team Caltex overall champs at Gajaba Super Cross 2002

For the pre-eminent marketer of Lubricants it was certainly a delightful day at the Gajaba Super Cross 2002, concluded on Sunday 18th in Anuradhapura, when all favourites of team Caltex in their Havoline branded cars went pass the chequered flag in style one after the other placing them selves as the overall champions in the event.

Aravinda Premadasa, proved himself yet again winning the Group M and T cars upto 3,500cc and the open car event for the 2nd consecutive year at the Gajaba super cross. In the super car event amidst tough competition, Aravinda was in total control driving his Caltex Impreza pass the chequered flag followed by Dinesh Deheragoda and Mansoor Hassen in their powerful Mitsubishi evolutions. In the open car event Aravinda was a clear winner with a magnificent display of guts and skill on a dirt track, which he found much to his liking, once again placing Deheragoda in 3rd place.

The Group A cars over 12kg/hp was sheer excitement for the spectators watching all three Caltex branded Ford Lasers compete one another. Right from the start the race was lead by Nishan Wasalathanthri who has no doubt mastered his skill in the event as he went pass the chequered flag in style followed by team mates Shalutha Adasuriya and Dhilshard Hamdoon. Nishan Wasalathantrhi was also placed 2nd in the group A cars 10-12kg/ph.

Another aggressive and talented driver Javid Wahab secured im self from the start driving his Honda Civic excellently to the finish line, winning the Group A cars 6-8 kg/hp with tough competition from team mate Prasanna Ranasinghe in his Vaxuall Cavalier in 2nd place. For Prasanna it was certainly his day, being placed in all three events that he competed. Parasanna was also the winner of the group A cars 8-10 kg/ph and came 3rd in the Group T and J diesel up to 3,000cc driving his Havoline Pajero.

Dinesh Senanayake the newest member to the Caltex racing family did the sponsors proud when he won the Group T and J diesel 4,500cc Turbo and Petrol up to 2,000 cc. He was also placed 2nd in Truck and Jeep open event. Rizvi Farook in his Honda V Tec was placed 2nd in the cars up to 1,665cc followed by Yoga Perera in his Austin Mini. Wedisinghe brothers were placed in two events, with the come back of Ananda Wedisnghe of team Caltex who won the 2nd place in the bikes open event and Sajitha Wedisinghe who gave team mate Zakie Isamil a tough race secured 2nd place in the cars up to 1,350cc.

What grand finale it was, even the junior riders walked away with smiling faces as Caltex commended their participation with gift packs to all those young riders. Caltex never fails to support the sportsmanship, talent and the enthusiasm of the junior riders.
