Sexual violence during wartime

Women are affected by armed conflict in a myriad different ways. They are often direct victims of violence, being either killed, maimed to subject to sexual violence. This direct violence is often severe and of the 'shock-the-conscience' variety. Women are often gang-raped ....., usually in front of their families.
