Chilaw Marians enter final, meet Bloomfield

Bloomfield qualified to meet Chilaw Marians Sports Club in the BCCSL under 23 Division One cricket tournament final after registering first innings victories in their semifinal matches concluded yesterday.

Bloomfield continued their dominance and defeated Air Force SC at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium while Chilaw Marians SC had the better of Tamil Union at the NCC grounds, Maitland Place. Chilaw Marians' success had great significance because they were competing in the Division One tournament only for the second time.

But they put up a splendid performance and took major honours while dominating the game throughout the three days.

Chilaw Marians reached 274 runs in their second innings with Praneeth Jayasundera smashing 64 runs with ten fours. He was also associated in a fifth wicket stand of 100 runs with all rounder Hasantha Fernando who scored 40 with eight fours. Tamil Union chasing a massive victory target of 405 reached 169 for 6 at close with Mevan Fernando stroking an unbeaten half century. Omesh Wijesiriwardena took the bowling honours with 4 for 28.

Tamil Union 146 and 169 for 6. (M. Fernando 56 n.o, M. Gajanayake 42, H. Nanayakkara 27, D. Pathirana 17, S. Kelum 14 n.o, O. Wijesiriwardena 4 for 28, P. Jayasundera 2 for 26).

Bloomfield beat Air Force

Bloomfield powered their way to a convincing first innings win over Air Force in their semifinal match at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium. Bloomfield rattling up a massive second innings total of 409 with half centuries from Ian Daniel, Duminda Perera and Udara Weerasinghe.

The Airmen chasing a victory target of 518 runs redeemed some prestige by scoring 221 for 6 in their second innings with Rashan Peiris stroking a fluent century.

Bloomfield: 261 and 409 (Duminda Perera 57, T. Kandambi 48, U. Weerasinghe 52, K. Lokuarachchi 43, S. Perera 42, S. Rodrigo 4 for 89).

Air Force SC: 165 and 221 for 6 (R. Peiris 118, R. Silva 23 n.o, N. Wijesinghe 21, T. Lakshitha 2 for 23, U. Weerasinghe 2 for 41).

Matale rout Police

Police SC beat Matale SC by six wickets in their BCCSL under 23 Division two cricket tournament match concluded at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Matale CC: 275 (D. Rangana 43, M. Irfham 34, S. Amunugama 61, A. Ramanayake 3 for 69, M. Jayawardena 4 for 69) and 174 (D. Wijewardena 51, M. Irfham 43, A. Ramanayake 4 for 28).

Police SC: 239 (R. Nirmal 35, E. Perera 23, S. Soysa 21, M. Jyawardena 28, A. Kumara 34, A. Thotagamuwa 5 for 73) and 211 for 4 (S. Nirmal 59, D. Perera 63 n.o, K. Asela 33 n.o, J. Welagedera 2 for 26).
