Shankar's International Children's Competition 2003

The Shankar's International Children's Competition 2003, in the categories of painting, drawing and writing is now open to children born on or after January 1, 1987. Competitors are free to choose the theme/subject and may submit any number of entries.

The entries with all details of the participant such as name, date of birth, nationality, address and the title of the entry may be mailed to: Shankar's International Children's Competition, Nehru House, 4 Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi - 110002.

The last date for receipt of entries is 31st December 2002. For rules, please contact the Indian Cultural Centre at 133, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 4, states a centre release.

 

IT course for provincial journalists

A decision was taken by the "Joseph Michael Perera foundation" to conduct an information technology educational program for provincial journalists in Gampaha district.

This decision was taken on a suggestion made by the Speaker Joseph Michael Perera.

 

Brewery premises ideal site for hospital

Consequent to the recent visit of Health Minister P. Dayaratne to Nuwara Eliya Hospital, and the government's desire to construct an up-to-date modern hospital in this Hill Resort, the authorities and Mayor Chandana Karunaratne, feel the ideal site is the former Ceylon Brewery premises, which has an extent of over fifteen acres.

The Japanese Government had earlier announced that it would meet the entire expenses of the new hospital provided a suitable location was found. However, there had been a delay in locating a suitable land for this project.

 

Mini season grand success

The 'Mini' August Nuwara Eliya Season jointly organised by the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council and other social organisations was a success where thousands of holiday crowds from all parts of the country flocked into this holiday resort during the long weekends and at the eve of the school holidays coming to an end.

A large section of the sports clubs had organised a number of events such as 'Motor Cross', Horse Racing, Musical Fiestas', Golf matches between August 22nd to 25th, for the benefit of the exodus of holidaymakers here.

Meanwhile, leading hotels, those involved in tourist trade and the business houses made equally heavy profits during this mini season.

 

Hotel school

The Provincial Ministry of Tourism has taken steps to set up a hotel school in Matale town limits, with a view to provide skilled employees for tourism.

Under this plan a location has been selected for this purpose and the due constructions will commence soon while the training facilities for youth will be provided in this centre.
